Ms. Chicas is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the states of Texas and New Jersey. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Houston, a Tier One research university.  

Ms. Chicas also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University. Additionally, Ms. Chicas is a licensed attorney and is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar, the District Court of New Jersey, the Southern District Court of Texas, and to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Ms. Chicas has the distinct ability to empathize with clients and understand the complexities they face in the United States as she is the daughter of two immigrant parents from El Salvador. Ms. Chicas has a strong educational background regarding the impact immigration issues have on mental health. She has experience working with diverse populations all over the world and knows the roles that cultural, religious, and regional values have on personal identity.

Ms. Chicas' expertise in immigration psychological evaluations include evaluations for extreme hardship waivers, violence against women acts (VAWA), U-Visas, T-Visas, Asylum Petitions, and cancellation of removal petitions. Immigration evaluations are available in English and Spanish. Currently Ms. Chicas is only able to serve residents of the states of Texas and New Jersey (with stable internet access and a computer or a smartphone with a camera) through tele-mental health video sessions offered on a confidential HIPAA compliant platform. 

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have the capacity to serve as expert witnesses in court proceedings. If you suspect your situation will require this, we would be happy to provide you with local referrals.

Process of Virtual/Online Immigration Psychological Evaluations 
for the states of Texas and New Jersey 

Consult with a trusted immigration attorney

The first step to evaluate your immigration case is to consult with a trusted immigration attorney. Your attorney will then advise you of your options and if needed recommend that you complete an immigration evaluation. We are happy to work with you attorney if you have already retained one. We also provide referrals to reputable immigration attorneys in the states of Texas and New Jersey if you have not yet retained a lawyer.

Schedule a consultation appointment with Ms. Chicas

During your consultation appointment, Ms. Chicas will explain to you the process of the immigration evaluation and will give you documents that are to be completed prior to your immigration evaluation appointment. You will be asked to sign consents and complete some questionnaires before your evaluation – you may choose to receive these by email or regular mail.

Complete your immigration evaluation with Ms. Chicas

You will meet with Ms. Chicas at least twice for a total of 2-4 hours per appointment. Ms. Chicas provides very extensive reports, and she spends time talking with you and completing the evaluation. If you are Spanish speaking, you will not need an interpreter as Ms. Chicas is a native Spanish speaker. If you require an interpreter for any other language, you will be responsible for locating, securing, and paying for your own interpreter. Your interpreter will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement form.

Written Report

You can expect for the final written report to be ready within 2 to 3 weeks from your last appointment. If you require the report sooner, you have the option of paying a rush fee to have the report completed sooner. Your attorney will receive the original signed report and you will receive a digital copy of the report.
